Helen has written to say that the first Kids' Kitchen lunch has been served and it was a huge success. Photos will be posted on the Kids' Kitchen page very soon. Watch this space!
Sponsors, donors and friends of Direct Link should now have all received a copy of our new DVD, showing the progress that has been made over the past year, in the Help Orphan Project.
If you have not received a copy, please let me know and I will forward a copy to you. If you would like any extra copies, for distribution at a special event, please also let me know.

Direct Link Christmas cards have been printed and are now available. As it is only possible to produce a limited amount, they will be available on a first come, first served basis. Last year they sold out in a very short time.
This year's cards are a set of 12 beautiful portraits of grannies, widows and children from the project village. See them here. They are priced at £5.00 for a pack of 6 or £10 for a pack of 12. They are produced on excellent quality card with an insert bearing the legend 'With very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year'.
Let me know how many you will require and I will make sure that you will receive them before they run out.

A letter has just been received from the Primary School for the Deaf, in which sponsors' letters were enclosed together with end of term reports.
The Headteacher says:
"... The term has been good becaue of the efforts made especially by you. We cannot forget the dictionaries donated and the party that relieved our students. Thank you abundantly.
Pass our sincere gratitude and joy to all the sponsors especially Sallie who has constantly been in touch with her sponsored children. We also appreciate the benefits from computers she donated to this school.
We are happy and encouraged that you continue assisting this school. These students are special and need a lot."
The dictionaries referred to are the ones that are sent to every newly sponsored child together with his/her introductory certificate of sponsorship and the sheet giving details of the sponsor. The party referred to was the Christmas party made possible by kind donations. Many thanks to everyone who has made these things possible.

Pam McGibbon attended the 'Tools for Change' conference at Caux, Switzerland, in July, which Helen also attended, having flown over from Kenya. Pam gave Helen many gifts from sponsors to their children and Helen exchanged these for letters to sponsors and many photographs which will be posted on this website as soon as possible. Sponsors should have received their letters by now.
There were many discussions, including the budget for the Kids' Kitchen and the erection of the new community hall.

The latest news from the village is that a meeting has been held with the grannies and widows, to discuss the Kids' Kitchen and the roles they will all be playing in this project. They are very keen to start and the good news is that a good sum of money has now been raised that should be enough to buy the initial equipment. The actual budget is still awaited, however.
Yet more maize meal was distributed because there is still famine in the area. There are always two planting seasons in a year, one from August to January and then from February to July but the crops over the December period did not do well and they died. Also, the ones for this year are not doing well because they were planted late, after Kofi Annanʼs peace accord talk in March. This means that the yield will be poor and the famine will continue.
